BiographyHistory

Richie Benaud is a journalist and former Australian cricket captain. He represented Australia in 63 tests between 1952 and 1964, and as captain presided over the resurgence of Australia's cricketing fortunes in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Benaud started working as a journalist in the 1950s, and turned to full-time cricket journalism and commentary following his retirement from first-class cricket. In Australia, Benaud was the face of the Nine Network's televised cricket coverage from 1977 until his recent 'semi-retirement'.
