Peter Cole-Adams was born in Borneo (the son of a British administrator) but raised in Stanthorpe, Queensland. After a cadetship with the Courier-Mail, he joined the Age, for which he was to work for nearly three decades, in 1965. In his time with the Age, he was foreign bureau chief in both Europe and the United States, among other roles. He then moved to the Canberra Times, where he served as political editor.
With his wife, artist Brigid Cole-Admas, he produced the book Journey into Australia, the result of seven months travelling around the country.
Peter Cole-Adams is the father of Kate Cole-Adams.
