BiographyHistory

'Iain Dubh Mac Dhornhnull ic Iain was born at Inverasdale in the Parish of Gairloch Wester Ross ... and at the age of twenty-four emigrated to Australia. He married Ciorstaidh Ruadh and together they had three sons. The family settled in Brisbane, where Iain was employed by the Shire Council, and later moved to Kenmore. In his recreational time Iain studied Highland traditions and folklore and composed Gaelic poetry. Iain was deeply involved with the Presbyterian church in Toowong and Kenmore. He taught Sunday School for over forty years and was the instigator of quarterly Gaelic services in Brisbane.' He was the joint founder of the Highland Society in Brisbane, serving as its president for many years. Because of his efforts to keep the Gaelic language alive, the Highland Society appointed him to be its official Bard.
