BiographyHistory

Sally Goold, OAM RN, Dip NEd, BAppSc (Nursing), MN St, DN (HC), FRCNA, FCN, is the daughter of Archie George Bamblett and Eva Lily Scott. She is the youngest of seven children. Her family moved to Sydney when she was a child.

Beginning with nursing, Goold went on to study further at the tertiary level. She lectured at Queensland University of Technology for six years.

Goold then focussed her attention on improving the conditions of registered Indigenous nurses in a variety of ways. She was instrumental in the formation of the Congress of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nurses (CATSIN). Goold has served on the Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation and was a torchbearer and 'Mayor for the Day' at the Olympic Village in 2000. In 1985, Sally Goold was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for her service to nursing education and Aboriginal health. In 2000, Goold was awarded the Distinguished Nursing Award. She was also awarded Senior Australian of the Year in 2006.
