BiographyHistory

Griselda Sprigg grew up in Scotland, and trained as a nurse, and after the war became a rediographer. She married the Australian geologist Reg Sprigg in 1951 and, with their children, travelled with him on his explorations of the desert areas of central Australia. She was the first white woman to cross the Simpson Desert. They later bought Arkaroola Station in the Flinders Ranges of South Australia, developing it into a flora and fauna sanctuary and tourist resort.
