Nicola Bowery was born in Melbourne and spent her childhood on the Mornington Peninsula. She studied, travelled, and moved to South Australia in 1974, working primarily as a counsellor until she began writing poetry in 1988, living in the Barossa hills. In 2012, she was living near Braidwood, NSW
