BiographyHistory

Arriving in Adelaide in 1991, Matilda Tran moved to Sydney in 2000. She completed a BA at the University of Sydney in 2003 and went on to study for a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing at the Minnesota State University, Mankato, USA. She began to write poems and short stories in 1997 and has contributed to various youth and student magazines.

  • Editorial note in Cau Noi says that Matilda is not her real name, but a means to get through cultural barriers. 'The name obviously came from the song 'Walzing Matilda', which was the first Australian song she was taught to sing at her English class after her arrival in Australia.' (p. 53)
