BiographyHistory

Born to Vietnamese parents in a Thai refugee camp, Huong Thao Nguyen arrived in Australia as a three month old baby, and lives in Sydney.

She initiated and coordinated the first ethnic youth film festival in Australia in 2003 and wrote the play 'Living Room' for performance at Parramatta Riverside Theatre as part of Elastic 10x6 (2004), a program co-ordinated by Information and Cultural Exchange Inc. She founded 'The Memory Frame' writing and photography project which assists young Vietnamese Australians to explore their past as a way to discover cultural identity.

She has studied Commerce and Law at the University of Sydney, has been Youth Chair of the Ethnic Communities Council of N.S.W. and Australian Youth Representative to the United Nations. She was Bankstown City Council's Young Australian of the Year, 2004 and a finalist for NSW Young Australian of the Year 2005.
