BiographyHistory

Kyle Mewburn was born in Brisbane where she graduated with a Bachelor of Business (Advertising and Journalism) at the Queensland Institute of Technology. Her first job was as a sports reporter on a provincial daily newspaper in Warwick. Later she changed to a job with Telecom and a year later left for Europe. During the next five years, she worked in a variety of jobs, including English language teacher, traffic counter and kibbutz volunteer, while she travelled.

After arriving in New Zealand with her German wife, a well-known potter, Mewburn set up and ran an Environment Centre, built her own house and became a full-time writer. In 2005, she won the Joy Cowley Award given by Storylines Children's Literature Foundation of New Zealand.

'The soggy bog is home to ten polliwogs. They splosh and splash together in the rain and mud, until one polliwog turns into a frog. Now there are nine polliwogs in the soggy bog and one frog on the mossy log. As the rain continues to fall, more and more polliwogs turn into frogs and the bog comes to life with colour and sound. Even the local scriffy scruffy dog cannot resist the bog-frog hop!' (Publisher's blurb)
