Although he was born in Western Australia, Malcolm King has lived in Adelaide since he was a small boy. He worked in catering and later ran a Post Office. He has a degree in Communication from Hartley College, and it was while studying there that he wrote his novel. He lives in the Adelaide Hills close to what used to be a home for unwanted children such as that described in his novel The Boy.
