BiographyHistory

Located at 6 Florence Road, Nedlands (Perth), Borderlands Press was set up in 2002 by some of the members of an editorial committee that had attempted earlier that year to relaunch Eidolon Magazine. While the press is best remembered for its journal, Borderlands, two of its earliest publications were souvenir booklets that accompanied the Western Australian Science Fiction Foundation (WASFF) conventions: Borderlands: The World Within (2001) and Borderlands: That Which Scares Us (2002). The latter publication went on to win the 2003 Ditmar Award for Best Australian Fan Achievement.

In 2003, the same year that the first issue of the Borderlands journal was released, the press also published a third souvenir booklet following that year's Borderlands: Trilogy convention.

Notes

  • A more intimate gathering that the annual Swancon conventions, the Borderlands conventions were held over two days, with the presentations focusing quite strongly on the convention theme. The 2001 'World Within' convention, for example, explored nanotechnology, consciousness, genetics, and the like in real life and in speculative fiction. A press release for the convention indicates that there were two programming streams and a fan lounge.
