Gary Zadkovich's family moved to Toowoomba in 1970. Prior to attending the Darling Downs Institute of Advanced Education (now known as the University of Southern Queensland) Zadkovich worked in a range of jobs which vary in description from 'oil-rig 'roughneck' to office clerk'.
