BiographyHistory

John Dawkins is a former Labor Treasurer, Education and Finance minister. He entered federal politics in 1974 as the member for Tangney and switched to the seat of Fremantle which he held from 1977 until his resignation from the Keating ministry and parliament in 1993. He is remembered as a strong advocate of "economic rationalism" and a controversial reformer of both the Public Service and the Australian Universities.
