BiographyHistory

In 1973 'the Australian Government set up the first five pilot bilingual education programs in the Northern Territory, at Angurugu, Areyonga, Hermannsburg, Milingimbi and Warruwi, acting on advice from the Watts Committee and with considerable assistance from Missionary linguists. The first languages chosen for use in these programs were Anindilyakwa, Arrarnta, Gupapuyŋu, Maung and Pitjantjatjara. At Milingimbi School the bilingual program was introduced into three classes (Pre-school 1 and 2) and Year 1 in 1973. Literature production began at that school in September 1973 (Milingimbi School report, 1979).' (https://fobl.net.au/index.php/au-MU/history
