BiographyHistory

Born the son of a blacksmith and the grandson of a covict, Alexander became an actor in Melbourne and developed a technique involving posture and breathing to help his performance. He began teaching his 'Alexander Technique' in Melbourne and later Sydney in the 1890s and left for London in 1904. He taught up until his death, establishing schools and teacher training courses in the technique. He never returned to Australia.
