BiographyHistory

John Flanagan grew up in Sydney, Australia, with the ambition of becoming an author. Though he spent several decades working in advertising and television, a series of short stories that he began to write for his son Michael went on to form his first novel The Ruins of Gorlan, Book 1 of the Ranger's Apprentice series. He then went on to write another 10 novels in the series, in addition to the The Royal Ranger series and Brotherband. The Ranger's Apprentice series won the 2008 Australian Book Industry Awards (ABIA) — International Success Award, and many individual books within the series have been shortlisted for and won various awards, such as The Hunters, which won the Aurealis Awards for Excellence in Australian Speculative Fiction — Children's Division — Best Children's Fiction (Told Primarily Through Words) in 2012, and Erak's Ransom, which won the Australian Book Industry Awards (ABIA) — Australian Book of the Year for Older Children in 2008. Flanagan's novels have sold millions of copies worldwide, with his Ranger's Apprentice series appearing on the New York Times Best Sellers list. He lives in Mosman, Australia, with his wife.
