Robert Wake joined the Department of Navy as an 18 year old and was associated with Naval Intelligence. For the next 30 years he was one of Australia's top spies during which time he was a co-founder of ASIO. However, in 1950 Wake resigned from ASIO after he came under suspicion because of his association with MP Dr HV Evatt. He took another government job at half pay. His story has been told by his son
Valdemar Wake (q.v). He died in 1974. (http://portmacquarie.yourguide.com.au/detail.asp?class=news&subclass=local&category=general%20news&story_id=300232&y=2004&m=4 Sighted 3/11/04)
