BiographyHistory

Hai-Van Nguyen came to Australia by boat with her family when she was four years old, coming via the Malaysian refugee camp on Bidong Island.

She attended Westfields Sports High School where she was joint winner of the NSW Premier's Award for all round Academic Excellence in the 2002 Higher School Certificate, and went on to study Arts/Law at the University of New South Wales. In 2002 she won a national essay prize run by Australia Versus Racism for her account of her parents' experience of coming to Australia.
