BiographyHistory

'Maggie May Gordon is an Australian poet, well known for her poetry and other writing in the western region of New South Wales, where she lives and works on a sheep and wool property, in the heart of her "real Australia". [...] Maggie has won many awards for writing, poetry and lyrics including The Land newspaper's literary award, Tamworth Music Festival poetry award, Henry Lawson Festival and Parkes Music Festival awards. Her poetry has been published, and it is used extensively in Eisteddfod, school and radio presentations. Eureka : Our Story 2004 single work musical theatre 'Eureka : Our Story' tells of the real-life Irish miner Peter Lalor, a central figure at the rebellion on the Ballarat goldfields in 1854, and his partners at the diggings. The musical is set on the Ballarat gold fields - at Bakery Hill, the Gravel Pits, the Eureka dig, the Chinese quarter and the Eureka Hotel - and in Melbourne at Government House and the Great Exhibition Building.
