A cartoonist by trade, Gloria Bourner also worked at some point as a cartoonist for animated films.

When she wrote A Son Is Born, she was married to man named Brookes: the Broken Hill newspapers noted that 'The young Australian scenarist, Gloria Bourner, is in private life the daughter-in-law of well known Broken Hill residents, Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Brookes, of Silver Street, North Broken Hill' ('Local Interest').
