BiographyHistory

Manik Datar lived in Calcutta until she was fifteen, when she moved with her family to London where they stayed for three years. In the early 1950s the family moved again, this time to Melbourne. In Australia, Datar has lived in Darwin, Alice Springs, where she worked for the Central Land Council and the Tangentyere Town Council, and more recently in Canberra. Her short stories often deal with issues of belonging and crosscultural relations. [Source: Peter Read, Belonging : Australians, Place and Aboriginal Ownership, Women's Business, pp 148-158.]
