English-born Steve Brook describes himself as a 'Melbourne writer'. At various times, he has been 'a hot metal compositor, a proofreader, a print and radio journalist, a book editor, and a clerk in an obscure department of the Commonwealth Public Service'. Brook's depiction of his attendance at Eureka Youth meetings in Sydney during the1950s and 1960s is included in his travel book, Strawberries with Everything (2005).
