BiographyHistory

In the late 1950s a book of poetry was found under an old house in Garnet Street, Preston, Victoria. The title of the book, which was badly water damaged, was The Original Poetry by Horace Wilson of 47 Ashton Street Brighton (England), from 1879 to 1885. Some details about the writer's life and movements can be found in the poems.
The earlier poems were written in Brighton but by November 1885, Wilson had emigrated to Australia and he wrote in Sydney: To the Parramatta (Translucent mirror of fair Austral skies.....) and then, in Melbourne, in February 1887 he wrote: Years have passed and I have drifted to a country far away...)
