BiographyHistory

Val Colic-Peisker was born in the northern Adriatic port of Rijeka, where she grew up under Yugoslav communism in the 1960s and 1970s. She became a teacher, translator, freelance author and journalist, working for the Croatian Press Agency and Croatian Radio in Zagreb in the 1980s and 1990s. In Australia, she has worked as an academic and a research fellow at Murdoch University, Western Australia. At Murdoch University in 2000, she completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree on the sociology of migration.
