BiographyHistory

After a farming childhood, Holthouse qualified as a chemist and worked in North Queensland sugar mills, while publishing articles on the history of the region in the Bulletin and the Queenslander. He served with the Australian Army Education Service during World War II and later joined the Brisbane Telegraph as a journalist. He worked part-time as a lecturer in journalism before retiring to become a full-time writer.
