BiographyHistory

Australian stage, film and television actor and director.

Charles 'Bud' Tingwell started his long and distinguished career by working as a cadet at radio station 2CH in Sydney, New South Wales. He joined the RAAF in 1941 and flew photo-reconnaissance missions in North Africa and Sicily. After World War II he returned to Australia and began an illustrious acting career which took him to America in 1952 and Britain from 1956 to 1972. His autobiography Bud: A Life (2004) described his working life (which continued until the final weeks before his death).

Tingwell was given a state funeral at St Paul's Cathedral, Melbourne, Victoria, 20 May 2009.
