David Witt is a television script-writer who has worked particularly heavily for Yoram Gross Film Studios and for other animated programs.
Witt began his work as a script-writer on long-running sit-com Hey Dad...!, as well as producing scripts for comedy talk show Denton, game show Who Dares Wins, and children's puppet show The Ferals. However, he was also beginning what would be a lengthy association with Yoram Gross Film Studios, perhaps Australia's best-known producer of animated children's television shows.
Witt's first work with Yoram Gross Film Studios were his scripts for television series The Adventures of Blinky Bill, followed by its sequel, Blinky Bill's Extraordinary Excursion; the animated successor to one of Australia's most popular programs, Skippy: Adventures in Bushtown; and the animated spin-off of Flipper, Flipper and Lopaka. (He would also write for the latter's sequel, Flipper and Lopaka: The Secret of Neptune's Trident.)
He briefly returned to writing live-action children's television with High Flyers, a program about city children who move to a small country town and discover it has its own, children-only circus. However, since 2000, his work has been almost exclusively in animated television, including scripts for Yoram Gross productions Tabaluga, Old Tom, Fairy Tale Police Department, and Staines Down Drains. He has alaso written for New Zealand animated program Bussy Bee and Friends, the French-Australian-German co-production Sally Bollywood, and for the live-action/puppetry-based program Penelope K, By The Way.
Since the separation between Yoram Gross Film Studios and Flying Bark Productions, Witt has been writing for the latter, including scripts for Zigby, Master Raindrop, Legend of Enyo, and Dive Olly Dive!.
In 2005, he took a brief foray into directing, for the French-Australian animated television program Seaside Hotel.
Witt has worked extensively as a script editor, including on Old Tom, The Dumb Bunnies, Fairy Tale Police Department, Seaside Hotel, Blinky Bill's White Christmas, Staines Down Drains, Master Raindrop, Dive Olly Dive!, Sally Bollywood, and Sleuth 101.
