BiographyHistory

AUSTLIT was one of the foundational projects, alongside The Bibliography of Australian Literature, that formed the basis for the current AustLit. It was established at University College, Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA), Canberra, in 1988 and was a citation-rich database of information about Australian literature.

AUSTLIT was created from the ADFA English Department's extensive card file of bibliographic citations. It was initially produced on the Urica library system, then distributed as a CD-ROM via Informit, and later generated as an early web-based database.

AUSTLIT was launched by the Hon. E. G. Whitlam on 8 August 1888. It was incorporated into AustLit: The Australian Literature Resource in 2000.
