BiographyHistory

Wangka Maya Pilbara Aboriginal Language Centre is an organisation working under the direction of Pilbara Elders that seeks to preserve Aboriginal languages, culture and history for future generations. Wangka Maya Pilbara Aboriginal Language Centre publishes books from the Pilbara region and runs programs that assist cultural awareness, people trying to find their families and community projects.

'This collection of Kathleen’s stories illustrates her life in the Pilbara, from local plant life and familiar sights in the Hedland area, to a bush-tucker picnic at Gagurrga (Yule River). There is also a story about her home, Karlarra House.'

'Kathleen tells the stories in her traditional language Banyjima. Banyjima is a highly endangered Pilbara language which has been classified as part of the Ngayarda language family.
