King has worked for organisations including The Courier-Mail and ABC Radio Brisbane, and has authored a number of biographies of notable Australian figures, including Joe Hockey and the Bali Nine.
In 2011, she left the ABC. In 2018, she was appointed by Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk to head up the Queensland Government's anti-bullying taskforce.
In 2018, her guide to raising teenage girls, Being 14, was longlisted for the ABIA General Non-fiction Book of the Year Award.
