BiographyHistory

Muskett studied painting with Julian Ashton, who made three portraits of her, and at the Académie Colarossi in Paris. She exhibited annually from 1890 with the Art Society of NSW and with the Society of Artists, Sydney, from 1895. In 1928 she endowed the Phillip Muskett prize at Ashton's Sydney Art School in memory of her brother. It would seem that the pseudonym Jane Laker was used by Muskett specifically in the writing of her novel Among the Reeds, which takes the form of an intimate journal - Laker being the fictitious diarist.
