A pretty country woman of good blood, raised by her yeoman farmer aunt and uncle, falls in love with the apparently widowed father of a little girl they agree to board. After they have declared their love he confesses that he is married but his wife has run away with another man, and he departs for India for three years. He returns on learning of his wife's death but then discovers that Juliet's father is the man who ran off with his wife. He refuses to marry Juliet until her father dies. The latter dies in Canada, and then Juliet is dying of consumption. She dies six months after her marriage in the south of France ... (PB)
