Mary Kalantzis holds a BA (Hons), with Majors in history and linguistics, a DipEd, and a PhD from the School of History, Philosophy and Politics, Macquarie University. Professor Mary Kalantzis has been Dean of the Faculty of Education, Language and Community Services at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and Research Director of the Centre for Workplace Communication and Culture at the University of Technology, Sydney . She was formerly Director of the Institute of Interdisciplinary Studies at James Cook University of North Queensland.
Between 1994 and 1997, she was Chair of the Queensland Ethnic Affairs Ministerial Advisory Committee, a part-time Commissioner of the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission from 1995 to 1997 and a Board Member of the Australia Council's Community Cultural Development Board from 1988 to 1993.
Her recent publications include co-authorship of New Learning: A Charter for Australian Education, ( 2001), A Place in the Sun: Re-creating the Australian Way of Life, (2000), co-editor of Reconciliation, Multiculturalism, Identities: Difficult Dialogues, Sensible Solutions, (2001) and Multiliteracies: Literacy Learning and the Design of Social Futures, (2000).
