Dr Alex Byrne was appointed Librarian of the State Library of New South Wales in 2011. He had previously held the position of University Librarian at the University of Technology Sydney
from 2000 to 2011. Prior to this, Byrne was Chief Librarian and subsequently Vice President and Pro Vice Chancellor (Information Resources) at Charles Darwin University, and Deputy Librarian at the Australian Defence Force Academy, University of New South Wales. He has also served as President of the International Federation of Library
Associations and Institutions (2005-2007).
