BiographyHistory

David Simms and George L. M'Intyre had a printing and bookselling partnership in Belfast from 1806, and began publishing in 1820. Initially specialising in mass publication of cheap schoolbooks and reprinted novels, during the period 1846 to 1853 Simms and M'Intyre published high-quality novels at a reasonable price in its Parlour Novelists and Parlour Library series. It was the first publisher of Charles Rowcroft's novel An Emigrant in Search of a Colony (1851). From 1853 until its demise in 1870 the firm was a printer and publisher of schoolbooks.

Between 1842 and 1858 the firm's imprint gave London and Belfast as place of publication.
