BiographyHistory

Wilfred Murphy ran away to sea as a teenager and gained his mate's ticket. He later studied theology at St Augustine's, Canterbury, and moved to South Australia where he served as a priest in the Church of England in Yankalilla, Kangaroo Island and Yorke Peninsula parishes. He wrote the story Black Tab and Crimson Spot for his family in about 1935, and it was published nearly seventy years later by his grandson. Set in Port Willunga, his favourite holiday place, it is a melodramatic adventure story about the early days of settlement in the area.
