Nick Marchand attended the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art in the early 1990s. He has worked in theatre as a script co-ordinator, playwright and director.
Marchand first visited Australia in 1992 when he worked on the set of the telemovie Singapore Sling. He returned for several other theatre-related visits before accepting the position of artistic director with Griffin Theatre (q.v.), Sydney, in 2007.
In 2010, Marchand accepted a position with the British Council as their Director for Australia.
