'Barbara Foy grew up in a big old stone house in Balmain, Sydney, and was educated at Sydney Girls' High School and the University of Sydney. She has been a stenographer, research assistant for the Commonwealth Film Unit, supervisor of a day care centre for mentally retarded children, and a high school librarian. She began writing at the age of 57' (Taste of Cockroach, p. 153).
