BiographyHistory

Gilberto Ojeda was born into a farming community and completed primary school education in Uruguay. After his arrival in Australia he worked as a tool maker in a factory in New South Wales. Ojeda took up writing upon retirement and under the pen name El Viejo Zoilo. He published his work in Noticias y Deportes, El Espanol en Australia), and Nosotras). In 1997 he received third prize in the Romeria del Rocio competition in Adelaide. He has also received several awards of appreciation from the Spanish Community Association.
