BiographyHistory

Boston bookseller and stationer Richard W. Worthington first established a publishing company in 1867, publishing quality editions of classics, at first in Boston, then from 1874 in New York. Following several business failures, he reorganised as the Worthington Company in New York in 1885. The Company then published cheap paperback reprints, but also a number of original foreign books, and some juvenile titles. Worthington participated in the United States Book Company in 1890 and when that failed, went into receivership, in 1893.
