Chris Mead has worked as a writer, director, dramaturg, facilitator, lighting designer and production manager for many Australian theatre companies. After completing his Ph.D from the University of Sydney in 1998, he was awarded a theatre scholarship from the Australian-Britain Society and the British Council to study new theatre writing in the United Kingdom.
He has been literary manager of Company B Belvoir Street Theatre, Sydney and was founding artistic director of Kicking and Screaming, a theatre company that produces new Australian writing.
In 2007 Chris Mead was appointed inaugural artistic director of PlayWriting Australia, the organisation established to replace the Australian National Playwrights' Centre and Playworks.
