BiographyHistory

Jacques Offenbach was a German-born French composer, cellist and impresario of the romantic period who wrote almost a 100 operettas and operas between the 1850s and late–1870s. A powerful influence on later composers of the operetta genre, particularly Johann Strauss, Jr. and Arthur Sullivan, his best-known works are regularly revived by opera companies around the world, including his uncompleted opera The Tales of Hoffmann (1881).
