BiographyHistory

Edmund Augustus Samson was raised and educated in London. He migrated to Melbourne to take up a position in the English and Elocutionary Department at Scotch College, arriving around 1865. Samson also began a series of recitals and musical soirees soon after his arrival.

Samson left his position at Scotch College in 1870 and became a private tutor, establishing his own school at Torrington House, East Melbourne. His prose, poetry and fiction appear in Melbourne newspapers, including the Mercury and Weekly Courier, from 1878 to 1880.

Towards the end of his life, Samson re-located to Omeo (where his son was the local medical practitioner).
