'Stages (The WA Playwrights Consortium Inc) began formal services in 1991, with the aim of providing programs of support for Western Australian playwrights and their work. [Stages] act[s] as an independent organisation with a charter to develop new W.A. theatre and performance writing across all forms, styles and genres. Stages sees its role as one of support and advocacy, meeting specific needs of individual writers, and acting as a resource to the wider theatrical community.'
The organisation's Mission Statement states that Stages aims 'to be the leading professional organisation, supporting, advocating and promoting the development of Western Australian playwrights and performance writing'.
