BiographyHistory

Poet and slam poet champion.

Emilie Zoey Baker has performed poetry internationally, and is the winner of the 2010 Berlin International Literature Festival’s Slam!Review. She teaches poetry in both primary and high schools and with Australian Poetry LTD co-founded OutLoud, the first Australian teen team slam (formed as part of the Melbourne Writers Festival (MWF).)

In addition to her poetry, Baker has also published a number of books aimed at preschool children, from the Sometimes I Feel series (for example, Sometimes I Feel Excited) to Australianised versions of nursery rhymes (including The Wheels on the Ute and Ol' McDavo Had a Farm).

A 2014 Fellow at the State Library of Victoria, she has been poet-in-residence for Museums Victoria, coordinator for the National Australian Poetry Slam, faculty for the spoken word program at Canada's Banff Centre (2013), and a guest at Poland’s Milosz festival in Krakow (2016). She regularly tours internationally, including Canada, the United States, and the UK.
