BiographyHistory

The daughter of Thomas Arnold (q.v.), second son of Thomas Arnold of Rugby, and of Julia Sorell (grand-daughter of Lieutenant-Governor of Tasmania, William Sorell), Mrs Humphry Ward left Tasmania as a child. Miller excludes her from his bibliography because of her early and permanent departure from Australia. In 1872 she married Humphry Ward, an Oxford don and, later, journalist and art collector. Mrs Humphry Ward wrote both fiction and non-fiction supporting her extended family.
