Peter Blazey worked as a journalist for the Australian, the National Times and OutRage magazine. He published several books, including a political biography of Victorian Premier Sir Henry Bolte and a satirical novel on another Premier, Jeff Kennett. Blazey was a formidable gay activist. His commitment in this area found expression in his co-editorship of the anthology Love Cries and his autobiography Screw Loose: Un-Called for Memoirs. (The autobiography was published after his death from AIDS.)
In late 2003, Blazey's brother, Clive Blazey, and his partner, Tim Herbert, established the Peter Blazey Fellowship for writers in the fields of biography, autobiography and life writing. The Fellowship was first awarded in 2004.
