BiographyHistory

Jimmie Barker's father was German (the original surname 'Bocher' was changed to 'Barker') and his mother was the daughter of a Scottish father and a Muruwari mother. During his childhood, he spent some time growing up in Brewarrina Mission and was looked after by a man named King Clyde who eventually handed down his 'gorget' or breastplate to Barker. King Clyde was also a Muruwari man who had been ascribed his status as king by settlers.
