BiographyHistory

Burroughs was a well-known poet of the Beat Generation of American writers. He was a social critic and his writings detailed the underbelly of New York city. Like many of his Beat contemporaries, Burroughs often performed his poetry in spoken word format and it made an impact upon popular culture and literature during the 1950s. Four of his novels were banned in Australia.
