W. H. Wooster was a Victorian microscopist and entomologist active in the 1880s. He is described on the title page of Poems (1925) as the following : 'Ex-State School Teacher, Preacher, Lecturer, Scientist, Writer for the Press, ex-member of Roy. Soc., Vic., and of Micro. Soc., Vic., and of Brit. Astron. Asso., President of Photo. Soc., Ballarat, and of Science Circle of Bal., Mem. Micro. Soc., N. S. W., etc., etc.' His first published poem, 'The Bells', appeared in the Parramatta Chronicle in 1866, and was followed by numerous poems in periodicals.
